A.E. House - A Compact Living Concept
An Interior Design and Architectural Project

In our day-in-age where space is scarce, yet many individuals crave to own something they can call "their own", the idea of A.E. House has was created.
The A.E. have been structured in three sizes in order to accommodate any type of needs. The elements are stack-able and constructed with primarily X-Lam.

Why Use X-Lam?
X-Lam reinvents construction as the new alternative to steel and even concrete for Australia and New Zealand.
1. X-Lam panels are large (maximum size is 15m x 3,5m) and they match together quickly on the construction site which speeds up the building.
2. For buildings large or small, X-Lam panels are a complete engineered wooden building solution. Each X-Lam panel is custom made to suit all the structural needs and wishes of the project and its requirements.
3. X-Lam panels are constructed using the latest European CNC machinery which provides security for high precision and it also defeats the waste on site.
4. Cross Laminated Timber is very safe. It is safe to erect as it only weighs 20 % of the amount that for instance concrete weighs. It is also safe to occupy as it is strong and flexible under load, which makes it a very important building material in places where the earthquake rate is high and they happen frequently.
5. The material is sustainable. Wood stores carbon which contributes to relieving the planet from the extreme exhausted gases. X-Lam surpasses conventional construction options in air-tightness, thermal insulation, internal moisture management, acoustic insulation and fire resistance.
6. For many different building types, X-Lam outplays the costs of steel or concrete.

X-Lam Solutions
1. Honeycomb Structures are seen as a complete building system when the permanent walls are used as the primary support structure for the project. The building category for such solutions are apartments, flats, multi-unit housing, hotels, retirement and aged care facilities, school and health buildings. The CLT walls, the floor and the roof act together to form a light weight and highly stable construction system which can be erected very quickly.
2. Residential floors and roofs are very economical when CLT is used to construct them. Especially if there is a sloping ground where a quick and flat platform has to be added. The span and brace of the panels give the circumstance for the floors or roofs to carry the foundational support. Since the CLT floor is rapidly installed it also creates a solid and very safe working environment for the on-site builders and workers. The X-Lam floor panels get craned into position at the speed of about 100 sq. meters per hour, which means that the entire residence’s floor can be placed before having even started the other construction tasks. The usage of X-Lam eliminates long labour hours. The roof can be placed in the same time period as the floor and implements prompt weatherproofing and a safe and solid surface for the workers of and on the roof.
3. Shear walls are much lighter when produced with X-Lam than the precast concrete which is usually chosen. Provision for pre-tensioning can be added in the layup of the selected panel.
4. Vertical extensions are so light that X-Lam open the opportunities for the addition of extra stores to already existing buildings without the need for expensive strengthening of the structure or the foundations.
5. Building on constrained sites that is possible with X-Lam because of the rapid delivery and the quite construction with and of the material. The other tool which is linked with a bit of noise and is needed on a construction site is the power drool. Giving these reasons, CLT proves that it is very beneficial for building sites with limited space and or very sensitive neighborhoods, where the noise tolerance is low. Projects which interfere with the urban area and re-mediate damaged buildings insist public safety and minimized interruption of the area. These measures are highly achievable with X-Lam.
6. Commercial Staircases are easily built using X-Lam as the material is fire-resistant and the AirStair is much cheaper and faster to install that the standard precast concrete staircase in commercial buildings.

A.E. House - La Petite
This concept is the smallest of three concepts of residential architecture and interior design. Using compact living elements which can be placed anywhere and everywhere, making them easily constructed within a short period of time.
After extensive research, zoning, idealization sketches and models, the conclusion was quite simple: To start from a geometric element and add and subtract pieces from it. To make the height more comfortable, the idea for all 3 concepts was to make them all double-storied and show how they could be placed into different scenarios.
The choice of using X-Lam as the structural material was because it can be used in panel form that can reach a maximum height and length of almost 10 meters, as well, there is no need in covering this material in plaster, in order for it to be resistible. The raw effect and texture it gives is much appreciated.
A.E. House - Le Milieu
The medium-sized concept in the compact-living series. It reaches a size of 69 compact sqm and is meant to be placed in many different and compatible scenarios.
The background of this concept was to keep the X-Lam showing on most walls, even on the interior to add a warm and very natural look and effect. As the pipe bearing wall, the wall between kitchen and bathroom makes it easy to keep all installations in almost one spot, meaning there is no need to intense distribution of fixed installations without the entire space. The style is kept bright using neutral hues and minimalist details, railings and window frames to give most importance to the main materials and the smart distribution of the spaces.
A.E. House - L’Imposante
The largest of the three modules which has a size of 69 sqm. The layout of each unit is similar in a thought-through way, yet the interiors are meant to slightly vary in terms of style.
Even though the layout of the units are similar, this unit is meant to give off more of a rustic vibe, as L’Imposante is mostly thought of to fit on a majestic piece of land surrounded by breathtaking nature and calm. The spaces are fled with natural lighting and windows in order to make this still petite sized dwelling feel like it never ends. As the spaces are more divided than in the smaller models, the use of natural and neutral materials make the transitions between the spaces peaceful and eye-catching.
